What it took to get an 8th grade education in 1895 ...
Remember when grandparents and great-grandparents stated that they only had an 8th grade education? Well, check this out. Could any of us have passed the 8th grade in 1895?
This is the eighth-grade final exam from 1895 in Salina , Kansas , USA . It was taken from the original document on file at the Smokey Valley Genealogical Society and Library in Salina , and reprinted by the Salina Journal.

The Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, Inc. (CBCF) is pleased to announce the expansion of the Louis Stokes Health Scholars program. For the 2009-10 academic year, CBCF will award 10 scholarships of up to $8,000 to high school seniors or college students who are enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, vocational or technical school. Paula Brown's Recipes
Crock-Pot Dinner *Complete*
2 large cans of Allen's Italian Green Beans
Jalapeño pepper
Onion
Ham
Potatoes
Tony's Seasoning
Olive Oil
Pour both cans of Green Beans into the Crock pot
Cut up the jalapeño pepper to taste in with the beans (without the seeds or leave a few seeds in for a little kick)
Dice onion (to taste)
Put ham in crock pot (for vegetarian version leave out the meat))
Quarter red bud potatoes (with skin)
Use Tony's Seasoning
